This prinny hood towel was first released in Japan on the 9th of August 2012 at the Summer Akihabara Electric Festival, which was then followed by Comiket 82 from the 10th to the 12th of August. After that, the hoods were made available for purchase from the Japan Nippon Ichi online store beginning on the 24th August 2012, with a pre-order period running from the 10th - 19th of that month.

The prinny hood towel was also released in the USA and were available from the NIS America online store beginning on the 26th November 2012, coinciding with the start of that year's NISA Holiday Sale.

The hood is made out of a blue microfiber polyester-nylon blend fabric. It features sewn-on prinny eyes and beak on the hood part, prinny 'stitching' at the bottom corners of the hood, and prinny wings on the back, along with the text 'PRINNY' being sewn under the wings. The two 'towel' lengths fasten together at the front via a plastic clasp.
